Traffic Signal by Wind and Solar in Miyazaki: First in Japan

A traffic signal utilizing both wind turbine and solar panel was installed at an intersection in Miyazaki city, Miyazaki prefecture.

The signal will be automatically switched from using ordinary grid electricity to the renewable powers, on an occasion of electricity cutoff in a disaster, for example.

It is said that a traffic signal powered by wind turbine has not been anywhere in Japan.
By combining both generators, the police is expecting a longer duration of electricity.
