Solars at School Insufficient :Board of Audit Pointed Out

The Board of Audit Japan pointed out that solar facilities at school in at least 14 prefectures had been known insufficient as power source in an emergency because of lack of rechargeable battery.

Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has been promoting to install solar facilities at elementary and junior-high schools since 2009.
It has paid a subsidy up to half the cost of installation.

By April 2011, 4,500 schools throughout the country had solar generators, but even at that time only 25% of them were available as power sources in case of emergency.
