Takeo city of Saga prefecture provided 3,153 Android tablets for every pupil in elementary and junior-high schools in April 2014. That was part of the city's cutting-edge policy "Education by Utilizing ICT."
The tablet is a product of Keian, seemingly Chinese-origin company in Tokyo. And it was inexpensive: 7 inch Android 4.2 machine for just 15 thousand JPY each.
However, 287 troubles were reported during the first year: no less than 23 tablets were initial failure.
Teachers are criticizing that the city should have continued using iPad, which was successful during feasibility studies conducted at a couple of schools in precedent years.
News outlets have reported the final process of selecting Keian tablet to have been suspicious.
The city refutes that the whole process of its equipment selection was just and that the trial education has shown possibilities and is becoming fruitful.
