Nation's Biggest Megasolar Planned in Rokkasho, Aomori

Eurus Energy in Tokyo released on 14th that the company had a plan of 115 MW solar power station in the Mutsu Ogawara Development Area in Rokkasho village of Aomori prefecture, where vast idle land stretches.

If the plan is completed, it will be the biggest solar station in Japan.

According to the company's business presentation at the village council, Eurus Energy intends to lease a land of 254 ha from the village and to generate electricity equivalent to 38,000 households' consumption. The electricity will be sold to Tohoku Electric Power.

There were several oppositions heard from village council members.

But village chief will set forward the project because "it is a tough decision but for local development and from the 'village of energy' standpoint it might be good."

The village is famous for its nuclear reprocessing facilities.
